GDC 2023 Now Has Free Bike Valet

The Game Developers Conference is committed to improving its environmental impact, and we're excited to announce that we've partnered with the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition to offer a complimentary bike valet for GDC 2023 attendees.

The SF Bicycle Coalition will be managing a bike valet onsite free of cost for GDC attendees. It will be located in The Paseo Alleyway off 3rd Street between Howard and Folsom. Here are the hours of operation:

Monday, March 20: 7:30am-7:00pm

Tuesday, March 21: 8:30am-7:00pm

Wednesday, March 22: 7:30am-9:00pm

Thursday, March 23, 9:00am-7:00pm

Friday, March 24: 9:00am-5:00pm

According to Tracy Weiss, valet bicycle parking program coordinator, attendees are welcome to valet their bike gear and accessories in addition to their bicycle. She also noted that the bikes will be parked in an indoor space, so no need to worry about your bike getting wet during GDC if it rains.

"When [attendees] know that their bike will be safe for the duration of the event they want to attend, they're much more likely to bike there," she said.

Moscone Convention Center has a dedicated bike lane in front (as seen in the image above), and attendees can consult this map to check out bike paths from their accommodations to the convention center. Tracy noted that several hotels in the area offer bicycles for guests, and to check with concierge to see if this is something that can be arranged. There are also plenty of rental bike services by the day or week, head here for a list of options.

In a chat with GDC, Tracy emphasized the importance of choosing bicycle transportation instead of a car—not just for one's physical and mental health, but also to benefit the San Francisco community at large.

"When these conferences come into town, they really do flood our streets with extra traffic, which impacts everything," she said. "Encouraging people to bike there helps relieve some of the congestion."

Attendees are also encouraged to take public transportation through the MUNI or BART. Head here for a full list of travel options and services.

GDC returns to San Francisco this March 20-24, 2023, and registration is now open! For more information, be sure to visit our website and follow the #GDC23 hashtag on social media.
